Méjico Máxico
Mexico, Mexicoooooooo….the week that sees Théâtre du Châtelet presenting Francis Lopez’s operetta The Mexican Singer also marks the release of Méjico Máxico by Mexican Institute of Sound. These underground electronic collages were produced solo by Camilo Lara under the guise of the Mexican Institute of Sound (no wide-brimmed hats in sight). These 15 tracks, some of them vignettes, reveal a razor sharp pair of virtual scissors at work, powered by a fantastically creative imagination. Latin electronica, digitalised swing, cyber mambo, crazed cha cha cha and other genre-busting crossovers feature on the effervescent Méjico Máxico which was recorded between 2000 and 2005.
